Piccolo Press were awarded “UK Social Stationery Printer of the Year” at a ceremony at Grosvenor House on Monday evening 24th October. With around 1000 people present, Managing Director Tim Honnor proudly collected the award on behalf of himself and his team, and said it was one of the proudest moments of his life.
With the judges noting “Quality of this standard is almost unbelievable” it was a huge endorsement for all that Piccolo Press has strived for, over twenty six years.
Piccolo Press in Nairn, headed by Tim Honnor with a staff of twelve, are the only manufacturers of engraved stationery in Scotland. They send their high quality printing throughout the UK, with many orders also going overseas.
Tim Honnor said:
“It is thrilling to be able to show that a small company in the Highlands of Scotland can beat the whole opposition of the UK Printing Industry. It is of course a great accolade and achievement for us at Piccolo, but also shows that with high quality staff and good communications, the North of Scotland can pull full weight.”
The twenty eight judges, all print industry experts and print buyers, said of Piccolo:
“After making the shortlist last year, Scotland’s Piccolo Press takes the step up to the top spot in 2011 with a range of skills that got our judges very excited” One judge commented “Quality of this standard is almost unbelievable”
On return from London, Tim found that his staff at Piccolo Press in Harbour Street Nairn had adorned their premises as if it was already Christmas. Congratulatory banners and balloons, with pictures of the award ceremony, covered the windows, and a special cake had been baked with the naval message “Bravo Zulu” (Well Done) iced on top. As an ex naval man, this was much appreciated by Tim, who then produced champagne and “Spliced the Mainbrace” with his team.

The last of the three parcels arrived here today (Wed 21/9) and I would like to say how very pleased I am with the quality of the work and the stock used. Papers like that just don’t seem to exist down here!
The engraving is quite outstanding, especially the bookplate, and I would ask that you pass my appreciation on to the gentleman concerned – he is quite obviously an expert of the first degree and I am very pleased that I asked to have his initials added to the plate, as far too often the artist is acknowledged and the engraver isn’t. Also, the presentation is wonderful – those solid boxes are highly commendable.
