Tuesday 29 September 2015 - Adrian Frutiger

We, like many others, were saddened to hear of the death of the renowned typographer Adrian Frutiger on the 10th of September. This obituary in The Times celebrated Frutiger's pioneering designs for simple, practical and elegant sans-serif typefaces – to this day some of the most famous and widely used in the world – such as Univers and Frutiger. As the article points out, "most people have read Adrian Frutiger's typefaces thousands of times in the course of their lives, be it on London street signs, at airports, driving on highways, or in chequebooks". The man himself may no longer be with us but his work is everywhere, and is perhaps more contemporary and relevant now than ever – more than half a century after Univers was first created.
